To A Daughter, From a Poet

-->

My daughter I was not born a poet
But I could feel something welling in my heart.
Sometimes it was like a song under rhythm of a drumbeat,
Something that slept deeply in my gut
It was like a song that
Forced me to read and write
To read each day and night
And learn much from a single sight.
This is poetry my daughter, and if you learn to see like that
You too, have become a poet.

Observe the times and write on your heart
Write what you see and don’t mind what is right
And when you begin to think in your mind
You will find in your heart is a faint sound
A sound of patience, a clock, the sound of time
Tick, tock, tick… now start to write the mind thinks in rhyme
Write on paper and share with a lonely heart
For the world will always be lonely till you learn all that
You know, you believed and you write.
